featuring scenes from the everyday life in Perú
Andrea Karolina is a first-generation Peruvian American, born and raised in Texas. From a young age, she frequently traveled to Perú in the summer to visit. Nineteen years later, she still cries on the flight back. In October of 2024, she visited Perú, but this time with her camera on hand. After two weeks, she flew right back in January 2025, where she continued to document her travels. The scenes she observed were those of the daily life in Lima, Lambayeque, and Chiclayo, all cities where she was visiting her friends and family. This collection of photos is a homage to those everyday people and the culture of the beautiful country her family is from.
from exhibit to artifact…
After coming back home from her travels, Andrea was asked to showcase her recent work at It Always Hurts Tattoo Studio. As she began the process of curating her exhibition, she realized they needed to live somewhere permanently once the showcase was over.
“BAJO EL MISMO SOL” was born. This book is a collection of photos capturing the everyday life she saw throughout her travels. Only 60 copies were made and sold.

This exhibition, held at It Always Hurts Tattoo in Houston, invited visitors to experience a rarely seen perspective of Perú through an intimate and personal lens. The showcase featured the first 20 copies of “BAJO EL MISMO SOL,” presented alongside physical prints from the book, offering a visual narrative rooted in culture and identity, This collection of photos show all of the places Andrea has traveled to with her family over the course of her life.
Beyond the photographic works, the exhibit included family memorabilia and cultural artifacts that provided insight into Andrea’s first-generation experience and what Perú means to her. Together, these elements created a heartfelt homage that celebrated both personal history and the broader Peruvian experience.
